    Notes
    • Odon was the youngest son of Humbert, founder of the House of Savoy. He married circa 1045 Adelaide de Susa. Their five children are presumed born between 1045-1055. (See research notes.)

      Peter/Pierre c 1046, succeeded his father; died c 1078
Bertha c 1047, married June 1066 Henry IV HRE; died December 1087
Amédée c 1048, succeeded his brother; died January 1080
      Odon c 1049
Adelaide c 1050, married Rudolf von Rheinfelden; died 1079
He succeeded to the family estates following the death of his older brother Amédée in the early 1050's. Although there were two brothers older than himself, they entered into religious lives, excluding them from the succession.

Odon was deceased in or before 1060, leaving only minor children, with his widow Adelaide left to assume the role of regent on more than one occasion beginning with their son Pierre. Following Pierre's death the second son Amédée (II) was briefly his successor until his death in 1080; succeeded in turn by his own minor son Humbert (II).

Odon's widow Adelaide lived on until December 1091, having outlived four of their five children.

      Research notes
Variations of his name include Odo, Oddo, Otto, Odon, Othon and Eudes. The title Count of Savoy commonly applied to him, did not come into use until later generations (circa 1125); he should perhaps more appropriately be styled Count of Maurienne.

In his work The early history of the House of Savoy, Previté-Orton addresses and examines the questions regarding the marriages of Adelaide of Susa (or Turin) and the chronological issues concerning her children's likely birth years, which must necessarily be fixed within a narrow time frame.[1]
