| Notes |
- It is unknown when Louis was born. A charter dated 1019 mentions a Louis, but there is another Louis born [1015], died [29 Aug 1071/1076]. They could be the same men.
Louis had possessions in the south of Alsace and around Hagenau, covering the southern part of the county of Sundgau as far as Basel and including Héricourt, Belfort, Altkirch and Ferrette, as well as the château de Montbéliard temporarily.[1]
Louis married (1038) Sohpie of Upper Lotharingia, daughter of Frederic II Duke of Upper Lotharingia & his wife Mathilde of Swabia ([1018]-21 Jan 1093). They had seven children, all of whom were dead by 1105.
He died between August 1071 and 1076.
It is proposed that he was called Louis, Count of Montbeliard. As he only held Montbéliard temporarily, he was probably known as the Comte de Mousson. He is called Louis Comte de Mousson in the Foundation for Medieval Genealogy's Medieval Lands Index.
