- Reginar was the son of Rainier by his wife Alice, daughter of Hugh of Alsace, Count of Egenbein.[1]
He was a Count, and his family had been called counts, in and around the Hainaut area for some generations. He may be the first who managed to rebuild a territory around Hainaut which was big and contiguous enough such that he was called Count of Hainaut in his own lifetime.
On the other hand, Belgian historian Michel de Waha doubts that Reginar IV ever really held Mons and if he did whether this was only after his marriage.
Married Hedwige (Avoie), daughter of Hugh Capet, King of France.[2] They had issue:
Raynier[2]
Apart from his son Reginar he also had a son Lambert. See MEDLANDS and also Dierkens.[3]
Reginar died about 1013.[2]
