- Elvira Menéndez was the daughter of conde Menendo González and condesa Totadomna, and was born about 994.[1]
She married in 1006, when still quite young, as his first wife, Alfonso V 'el noble', King of León, though the marriage wasn't consummated until 1009.[1] They had two children;
Sancha Alfonso, born circa 1014, who succeeded her brother as Queen of León;[1]
Vermudo III, born 1017-1018, succeeded his father as King of León, but died without surviving issue;[1]
Elvira Menéndez died on 2 December 1022, and was buried in San Isidoro de León.[1]
