  Notes	Elias married Bertha FitzRichard/FitzPons, probably in about 1127 when her father Richard FitzPons granted her mother the manor of Leach, Gloucestershire in exchange for the manor of Ullingswick, Herefordshire, which he had given to Elias as part of the arrangements ("in matrimonium") for Bertha's marriage.[1] Paid 100 marks for his father's relief in 1130 (Pipe Roll, 31 Henry I). Succeeded his father in 1130. Called "the Boy," probably to distinguish him from his father; and, as such he is named with his wife Berta and his son Walter, in the time of Abbot Hamelin, who was abbot from 1148-1179. He granted the church of Boynton to the monks for the soul of Berta, his wife, and this grant was afterwards confirmed by his son Walter. Helias III Gifford tried to reclaim the grant of the church of Boyton, Wiltshire, which had been made by his father Helias and his uncle Walter, but the gift was confirmed by Bishop Josceline of Sarum and afterwards by Bishop John, who was acting during the vacancy of that see, 1184-1189.[2] Became a monk in Gloucester Abbey.
