    Notes
    • Origins
Geoffroy Issenart, Seigneur de Landres[1][2], was the son of Georges Issenart and Jehanne de Verny.[3]

The history of the Isenart/Ysenart/Issenart family was researched by Dr. Albert Bernard in his work Histoire de Landres:

As for Geoffroy Issenart, he married Beatrix de Grandpré, daughter of Gobert II Count of Grandpré (2) and Claude du Bois-Roucy (3): she brought him in marriage Cornay, Sommerance, Sivry-les-Buzancy, Boureuilles, etc. . It was in the last years of the 15th century that this marriage took place and that Geoffroy Issenart took possession of the seigneury of Landres. Indeed the first act where his name is mentioned is from 1498: it is a letter “taken up in parchment made to Loys de Joyeuse count of Grandpré by Geoffroy Issenart of the lands and seigniory of Landres, inheritances mention the year 1498.”.
Most of the documents that we have relating to Geoffroy Issenart's stay in the seigneury of Landres consist of an analytical enumeration related to an inventory of August 26, 1572. This is the inventory of the pieces found in "an old chest of boys without lock or key in the house chastel de Bolandre represented by damsel Jehanne Issenart lady of the said Bolandre (5). »
We will only mention in this long list the pieces of particular interest to Landres. A letter of "ascension written in parchment made by notaries Jehan d'Exermont and Colas Morel royals of the prevoste of Sainte Manehould by Morel Parsaille, abbot of Chahery and Gobert de Grandpré, lord of Cornay, lord of Cornay and Fléville, to Jehan Collignon and Thiery the Cordonois of a place size in Landre ..... have a blef mill now a slab forge of the tenth day of January 1490. »
From November 14, 1501, a division between Geoffroy Issenart and Beatrix de Grandpré his wife and Pierre de Pallas and Jehanne de Grand pré his wife "for reasons of the lands and seigneuries of Landres, Sivry les Thenorgue, Sommeranee, Fléville, Exermont lez Chehery, Bantheville -lez-Romagna”.
A sentence rendered by Thierry de Lenoncourt for Geoffroy Issenart “against the religious (sic) of Chéhéry” dated August 14, 1506.
An "acquet made by Geoffroy Issenart, squire, lord of Landre, on an honest man Nicolas Cartillier, merchant in Châlons, of an eighth in the lordship of Landre for 100 pounds tournaments" dated May 5, 1511.
A letter of acquet in parchment "to the teacher (il de Geoffroy Issenart contre Jehan Lardenoys dict Hutint, residing in Chevières, dated the 18th day of March 1512 of the purchase of the forge of Landre. "
The original of the 1529 charter sealed in a double tail of green wax, to which is appended "a harvest made by Anne de Manre to escort and damsel his wife from 5 septiers de bled to take from Landre's inheritance each year for the benefit of Sir Jehan count of Grandpré” dated the year 1312 in the month of February and sealed in double tail with two seals.
A paper recovery dated February 15 “1538 made by led. defunt Geoffroy Issenart on his part of the seigneury of Landre. Signed: Robert de Joyeuse, Comte de Grandpré".
There is still a confession from 1523 (1): "We hold from me Geoffroy Issnart and Denys Cauchon (2) the land town and seigneury of Landre except for a few small portions that the abbey of Chahery holds 28 pounds and 30 pairs (3) grain »
And in reality this share held by the monks of Chéhery, we will find traces of it until the end of the 18th century when Landres still paid the said abbot the eighth of the big dime.(4)"[3]
      Life
The arms, or blazon, of Geoffroy Issenart was "d'argent à l'aigle éployée de sable, couronnée, becguée et armée de gueules.", or silver background with a black eagle, crowned, beaked and armed with red.[3]

The death of his brother Guillaume Issenart, Seigneur de Landres

On December 29 1525, "Guillaume d'Issenard, lord of Landres, Charles de Rouvroy, lord of Gernicourt, Philippe de Haldes, lord of Marquigny-aux-Bois, captain of the fortress of Montfaucon, Florent Rodigue, Jehan Zabin, and others, at the head of their people, in the absence of Henry de Pouilly, who had gone to return faith and homage to the Duke of Lorraine for his properties in Barrois, surprised the fortress of Cornay at night, looted the castle and removed the archives."[4] "The judgment of the lieutenant of the Bailli de Vitry, at the siege of Château-Thierry, who, in 1527, gave Henry de Pouilly back in possession of his castle, assigned him damages- interests and sentenced the aggressors to perpetual banishment and confiscation of their property for the benefit of the state. For us, we have every reason to believe that this fact is only one episode of a family drama which took place, for many years, between the two brothers-in-law Henry de Pouilly, lord of Cornay, Jeoffroy d'Issenart, Seigneur de Landres, and their sons Louis de Pouilly and Guillaume d'Issenart; we attach to it the death of the latter, killed by his cousin, Louis de Pouilly. (See the confession made, in 1538, to King François I, by Geoffroy Ysenard, squire, lord of Landres. Bible. Nat., French collection, 22363, fol. 34)."[4]

      1529 homage and fealty

On 5 April 1529, Geoffroy de Issenart declares homage and fealty, proving the ancestry of his wife Beatrix:

"Geoffroy Issenart esquire seigneur of Landres appeared in person lequel [he] declared and stated that three quarters of the lands and seigneuries of Cornay and Fléville the entirety of Sivry les Busancy Sommerence [&] Baldrenge and an eighth of the land and seigneurie of Bourolles with half of a forest called the woods of Cornay[,] lying within the bounds of the said Bourolles and also half of a certain other forest within the said bounds of bourolles called the woods of Debat [(]all of which are held [by Geoffroy] under the jurisdiction of the king our Lord due to his [Geoffroy’s] castle and chastellenye 9 of Sainctemanehould belong to him because damsel Béatrix de Grant Pre his wife had inherited them following both the death of the late Gobert de Grant Pre eldest son of late Edouart de Grant Pre late count of Grant Pre and the death of the late damsel Claude de Roucy her mother while a quarter of the said lands and seigneuries of Cornay and Fleville and half of the tower and stronghouse of the said Cornay belong to him due to a conciliatory agreement made between him and Loys de Pouilly as settlement of the accrued interests owed by him [Loys] as a consequence of the killing of the late Guillaume Issenart son of the said Geoffroy who died by the action of the said Loys de Pouilly these lands and seigneuries have been at his [Geoffroy’s] disposal and in his possession for forty-eight years since he married the said damsel Beatrix his wife and the said fourth of Cornay Fleville . . .
