===Origins===Gerard de Toignel III, Seigneur de Felcourt et de Villers-de-Sac, bailiff of Chalons in 1417,[Louis Grignon. In two undated records for father and son are recorded:
: "Gérard Toignel, Sergeant-at-Arms of the King leaves 2 swaths 1/2 of prises "in flats in front of the gravel," for the maintenance of a lamp "resting in the said church in front of the horned Mother-God at the entrance of" chancel Notre-Dame on Saturday at vespers , Sundays and feast days at Mass and Vespers. For this, 10 s t." and "Gérard Toignel le viel, father of the said Gérard, leaves at the church a tax of 15 and on a house behind the hall, at S. Remy."[de Barthelemy, ed. In an undated record, the death of his mother and her burial place alongside his father is recorded:
:"The funeral and birthday of the late Miss Marie de Flory, widow of Gérard Toignel, sergeant-at-arms of the king, to be held on the first Friday after Saint Mathieu, in return for a bequest of 40 [and] it to be used as an annuity of 4, which serve in two terms the wife and heirs of the late Philippe d'Argers, knight, on the property of the latter in Argers and Dommartin-sur-Auve.:Said service celebrated with 12 priests and the marlier, each receiving 20 representations of bodies and 4 candles of 2 pounds.
