    • == Biography ==
      Catherine was born in Montreal. Her parents were adventurers who explored up and down the Mississippi River, and both lost their lives in some event in 1724. But that explains why Catherine would have been in New Orleans in 1718 to marry Etienne Langlois at age 14.
      Etienne was in the military and dispatched to Fort de Chartres which was founded in 1720. After leaving the service but apparently an officer in the Militia, Etienne took up farming in Prairie Du Rocher until 1736 when he was killed by the Chickasaw.
      In 1737 Catherine married an Urbain Gervais who then died in 1740. She signed as "Widow Gervais" when doing business, having taken over Etienne Langlois' enterprises following his untimely death. I can find references to this in the literature but have not yet found the relevant documents. The marriage should have been in Prairie Du Roche.

      From the Kaskaskia Manuscripts...(37:2:6:1) Registration and inscription by the clerk Bertlot Barrois of the donation by Marie Catherine Beaudrau to her future husband and guardian of her children, Urbain Gervais, of a portion of her estate equal to the portion of one of her children by her first husband, the late Etienne Langlois, which donation is made in the marriage contract of Gervais and Beaudrau, executed by Barrois on Jan. 20, 1737. Executed at Kaskaskia. (2pp. Perrin, 5) (Orig. in Perrin Coll., 111. St. Archives, Spfld. 111.) See: 40:2:9:1
      40:2:9:2 Inventory and valuation of the community property of Marie Catherine Baudrau and her second husband, the late Urbain Gervais, with a summary of the inventory made on Feb. 16, 1737 of the community property of her first husband Etienne Langlois. Executed at Prairie du Rocher in the presence of Duchouquet, first cousin of Gervais, and in the absence of Duval, Gervais' half brother on the mother's side, who had been duly notified. Followed by sworn statement of the widow on Feb. 12, 1740 that to her knowledge, none of the community property has been overlooked in the preceding inventory, which is formally declared to be closed. 40:12:17:1Division of property between Marie Catherine Beaudrau, widow of Etienne Langlois and of Urbain Gervais, of Prairie du Rocher, and her children: Toinette Langlois, 16 years of age, represented by her husband De Monbrun de La Soudray; Marie Louise Langlois, 19 years old, represented by her husband Messager; Marie Joachine Langlois, 14 years old, represented by her husband De Populus; Francois; Louis; Gerard; Perine and Auguste.Executed at Prairie du Rocher. Augustin Langlois; Louis Langlois; Louis Bore; Antoine Bienvenu; Antoine Potier dit Toussaint; Barrois. (12pp. Pub. II, 6; Misc. I-IV) See: 40:12:30:1, 40:12:30:2, 40:12:30:3
      Following the death of her second husband, she continued to do business as "Widow Gervais". She relocated to New Orleans [possibly because her uncle Jean-Baptiste Baudreau was a wealthy merchant there] where she had a busy business buying and selling goods. Her untimely death resulted in many claims.
