Annable John Dunford

Notes:

Joseph, second son of John and Hannah Stewart Annable, was married to Anna Crosby by Rev. Joeph Vail of Hadlyme, CT.

They settled first in New London, CT where he was engaged in shipping to the Bahama Islands and elsewhere, and removed thence in 1810, to Albany, NY.

About 1810, the family changed the spelling of it's last name, using only one "n", thus Anable, not Annable.

After the death of this first wife, Anna, he married Alma Sheldon. She was born at Adams(Bershire County), MA. and died at Philadelphia, Pa. Her remains were interred at Laurel Hill Cemetery, Philadelphia, PA. The remains of Joseph Anable, his first wife, Anna, and those of his daughter (by his second marriage) Cynthia Jane, were removed from their original resting place (presumably the Laurel Hill Cemetery) to the Albany Rural Cemetery in 1868.

Alma (Sheldon)Anable's mother, Isabel (Low) Sheldon, was the daughter of Major Samuel Low of Cheshire, MA, owner of a great estate in Massachusetts. He was reported to have been a great hunter who fought valiantly in the Revolutionary War, seeing many acts of mercy while he was fighting for freedom. He set his many slaves free, all of whom elected to remain with the family and lived to an old age in his service.

She was the sister of Urania(Sheldon)Nott, second wife of Dr. Eliphalet Nott, President of Union College, Schenectady, New York, 1814-1866, an all-time record for the tenure of the office of a college president. He was the namesake of Henry Sheldon Anable's only son, Eliphalet Nott Anable, father of the author of "The Anable Family in America 1623-1967".

Joseph married Crosby Anna on 16 Aug 1796. Anna died on 09 Mar 1813 in Albany, Albany County, Ny. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

He and his wife, Hannah Stewart Annable were baptized into the church in Millington, CT, May 12, 1791.

According to the Connecticut Revolutionary Records, John Annable served during the Revolutionary War as a private in the regiment of Captain Holmes of East Haddam, Middlesex County, CT.

John married Stewart Hannah. Hannah was born in 1748 in East Haddam, Middlesex County, MA; was christened on 04 Jun 1749 in Millington, Middlesex County, CT; died on 27 Feb 1790 in Millington, Middlesex County, CT. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Cornelius moved from Barnstable County, MA and was living in Parish of Millington, East Haddam, Middlesex Co., CT in 1728. He was still there by 1747.

Cornelius married Goodspeed Experience on 20 Jun 1729 in Barnstable, Barnstable County, Ma. Experience was born on 24 Jun 1710 in Barnstable, Barnstable County, MA. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
