- He was educated in the common schools of Dudley and Webster, and learned the trade of fuller or finisher of cloth. He carried on a farm and also worked in the woolen mills of the vicinity at wool sorting. He had part of his father's homestead, on which he built his house. He was a quiet, respectable citizen, standing well in the community. He was a strong antislavery man and voted with the Free Soil and Republican parties.
