| Notes |
- Eberhard (lat: Euerhart), Graaf van Betuwe en Teisterbant/d is considered to have been the son of Fretherhard, Graaf van Teisterbant, although his parentage is not considered certain (as noted below). [1]
Fretherhard was one of five siblings considered to have been the grandchildren of Eberhard, Graaf van Drethe en Salland who were connected to Teisterbant(d) and Betuwe (Batavia): [1]
Eberhard, who died in Sep 978
Fretherhard, who became Graaf van Teisterband
Adelbold, who became the Bishop Utrecht
Unruoch, who succeeded his elder brother as Graaf van Teisterband
Godizo, who became the Graaf van Betuwe (Batavia)
Successions
Fretherhard's younger brother Unruoch eventually succeeded him as Graaf van Teisterbant/d - but Unruoch is not known to have had any children - and had died by 1026. In addition, brother Godizo, Graaf van Betuwe had already died by 1018 - and although he had married, the couple's son Dietrich appears to have been his wife's from an earlier marriage. [1]
According to Europäische Stammtafeln, succession then passed to Eberhard, Graaf van Betuwe en Teisterbant/d who was Fretherhard's son. [1]
Eberhard was noted as being count in a document of 29 Sep 1033: [1]
"Hezel…palatinus comes…domni Ezzonis palatini comitis frater uterinus" donated property "in villa…Luvenich" to Köln St Gereon by charter dated 29 Sep 1033, witnessed by "…Euerhart comes…"
Family
Eberhard and his wife, whose name remains unknown, are considered to have had a daughter named Adelheid (Comtesse Adela). [1]
"Adelheyt comitissa, comitis Everhardi filia" donated “predium suum Ortinam” [Orten (Bois-le-Duc)] to Utrecht St Marten, for the souls of “sue ac mariti sui Henrici...per manum Hermanni...advocatum”, by charter dated to [1076/99]
Adelheid / Adela was named as a founder of the Affligem Abbey west of Brussels - which was established in 1086 and associated with the Counts of Brabant and Louvain / Leuven - and she is considered to have been the wife of Henri II Comte de Louvain / Graaf van Leuven. [1] [2]
The Chronicon Affligemense names "Adela comitissa Lovaniensis" as mother of two sons "Heinrico et Godefrido" specifying that she was one of the founders of Afflighem Abbey. She founded the abbey of Afflighem in 1086.
Eberhard is not known to have had any sons, and succession of Teisterbant passed to Unruoch (II), who is considered to have been Eberhard's younger brother. [1]
