'''Michel Pelletier dit Antaya''' was born in Canada, Nouvelle-France in about 1674 (being 7 years old as of the 1681 census and 23 at marriage); but his precise date and place of birth are not known. He was the son of Nouvelle-France pioneers [[Pelletier-38|François Pelletier dit Antaya]] and "Fille à Marier" [[Morisseau-1|Marguerite Madeleine Morisseau]]. Michel's father François Pelletier was an explorer involved in the fur trade, and the family's dit name of "Antaya" (used by him and many descendants) relates to the first wife of François who was an Amerindienne named "Dorothée." == Research Notes ==
''Note regarding name and spellings:
:The baptismal record of Michel has never been located, but his father was known as Jacques Pelletier (sometimes spelled Peltier) and regularly used his dit name of 'Antaya' following the death of his first wife Dorothée who was Amerindienne.
:The family name was transcribed as Pelletier in connection with the 1681 census, and appears as Peltier in connection with Michel's marriage.
:At his son Jacques' wedding, the groom is noted as being the son of Michel Antaya.
''Note regarding the death of Michel:
:The date and place of Michel's death are considered uncertain since no burial record has been identified – and PRDH shows the date and place of death as unknown.
:Michel appears to have been alive at the time of his son Jacques' marriage on 25 April 1744 at Saint-François-du-Lac. [Mariage de fils: Canada, Québec, registres paroissiaux catholiques, 1621-1979, database with images at FamilySearch. Baptêmes, mariages, sépultures 1687-1694, 1698-1748; Archives Nationales du Québec à Montreal [https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3QS7-L993-C36Q Mariage de Jacques (fils de Michel)]]
:A secondary source (Find a Grave) reports that on 25 March 1745 the estate of Michel and Françoise was divided among their children – however no source or citation is provided.
:Michel's death was previously shown as 9 February 1757 at Berthierville – however no source or citation was provided - and an effort to find a corresponding burial record did not confirm the information.
:Accordingly, the current date of death is shown as being sometime after 25 April 1744, and the location marked as uncertain.
