== Biography ==
Jean Bergeron was a second-generation émigré. He was born on 21 November and baptized on 29 December,1676 at Notre-Dame-de-Quebec.Jean was the second son of Andre Bergeron and Marguerite Demais. Jean married three times: first to Marguerite Grenon in 1699, second to Marie Madelaine Ferland in 1711, and third to Madeleine Bourassa in 1719. Jean was a farmer his whole life. Jean's family lived in Lauzon. Since there was yet no Catholic Church in Louzon, they crossed the river to Quebec City (which must have frozen by late December) for events such as baptisms and marrriages. His maternal grandfather, Jean DuMets, and friends living at St.Niclas, Louise Vital, wife of Guillaume Denevers, carried baby Jean to his baptism and served as his godparents. The baptismal certificate, issued by Notre- Dame-de-Quebec parish church, reads as follows:
''On the twenty-ninth day of December, for the year One Thousand Six hundred seventy-six, by the Reverend Thomas Morel, priest-missionary from the Seminary of Quebec was baptized JEAN, son of Andre Bergeron and Marguerite duMets, his wife, born on the twenty-first day of November of the same year. His godfather and godmother were Jean duMets, grandfather, and Louise Vidal, wife of Guillaume Denevers. Signed: H. De Bernieres''
