| Notes |
- Prangarda di Canossa, was the daughter of Adalberto Atto di Canossa, Conte de Reggio e Modena, and his wife Ildegarda. She married Manfredo (Magnafredo), Marchese di Torino, and had six sons.[1]
She brought as her dowry lands in "Parma and Reggio round about Traversetolo and Canossa"[2]amounting to about 650 acres.[3]
Date of marriage
Prangarda was married to Manfredo di Torino definitely before 8 March 991, when she and her husband issued a contract selling part of her inheritance to Raimbald, deacon of Borgo San Donnino for forty pounds of silver.[2]; [4] However the marriage must have taken place long before that date, particularly as one of her sons succeeded his father in about 1000, and another was appointed Bishop of Asti in 1008.[1]
However although one source has them already married in 851 this is considered too early[2], and even a marriage in 861[3] seems unlikely given for instance that none of their sons also witness the 991 charter.[4]
A marriage in about 975 might be the most likely though this is a very rough estimate. This could then place her birth in about 960.
Children
There were six sons;[1]; [2]
Manfredo Udalrico, who succeeded his father as Marchese di Torino and di Susa;
Adalric0, who was appointed Bishop of Asti in 1008, until 1034, and was killed in battle at Campo Malo 7 December 1036;
Oddo, died after 1029;
Ugo, died after 1029;
Guido or Wido, died after 1029;
Azzo or Atto, died after 1029.
Death
Prangarda's husband, Manfredo di Torino, died about 1000[1], and definitely by 31 July 1001, when Emperor Otto III issued a diploma to his son Manfredo Udalrico.[2] However there seems to be no indication of when Prangarda died, though about 1000 might be a reasonable guess.
