Alfonso Mauregatus has been disconnected as the son of Maugerato I and Creusa.
Sources name Hermenegildo as the only child of Mauregato and Creusa,[1] and even then the existence of Creusa, and her son Hermenegildo, is based solely on a donation to a church dated 30 October 863, which only survives partially in a 12th century document and is considered likely to be spurious.[2]
It seems likely that Mauregatus, has been 'invented' to provide a royal connection for the Betótiz family who were influential in Leon in the 10th and 11th centuries,[3] giving a royal ascent for Alfonso Betote.
